Introduction
Graphic Design is a two-year full-time education with a focus on visual communication and graphic design across both traditional and new media. The education prepares students for work as art directors or graphic designers in an editorial context, a design agency, or in a company where graphic design plays a key component.
The education unites practical application with theoretical teaching to meet the challenges of contemporary design. A graphic designer must be a complete communicator, able to bring together strategic, critical and creative faculties. The focus of the course is on problem-solving and applying ideas into graphical forms. A major emphasis is placed on typography as well as on other graphic tools that students develop to a professional level during their education
Diploma Education Contents
The education is divided into a series of courses that focus on graphic design for print and interactive media and moving graphics. Practical exercises are interwoven with theoretical studies in a range of ideas including: Idea and concept development, design history, communications theory, and visual semiotics. The education also includes five weeks of practical training at a design agency or company.
The education places an emphasis on working over traditional disciplines and students work directly with students from other departments.
Course Structure
The education consists of two years of full-time study. The pedagogical form of the course is a mixture of lectures, seminars, workshops and group/individual projects. A large-scale examination project runs parallel with the courses in the final term. Five weeks of practical training at advertising agency are also included.
The education emphasizes on working over traditional disciplines; at the same time students are encouraged to work directly with students from other school departments.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must have a completed high-school/college education with good grades in Swedish, English. Students should have at least six months relevant professional experience and experience in working with both Mac and PC. Students must also complete a number of test exercises and submit a portfolio of work in their application.
