Introduction to Canvas

Find everything you need to get started with Canvas, our Learning Management System.

Welcome to our quick guide to Canvas

Canvas is Berghs’ learning management system (LMS), the digital platform where you’ll find everything you need for your course, whether you’re studying online or on campus. Canvas runs directly in your web browser, so there’s no need to download or install any software.

Below, we’ll explain how to:

  1. Log in and accept your course invitation
  2. Set up your notifications
  3. Find your way around Canvas

If you have questions about Canvas that aren’t covered here, your course coordinator will be happy to help. You can also contact us at support@berghs.se.

1. Accept your course invitation

When you log in, the first thing you’ll see is your Dashboard. This is your home base in Canvas, where you’ll find all the courses you’re enrolled in.

When you’ve been invited to a new course, you’ll see the invitation at the top of your Dashboard. Simply accept it to get started.

Introduce yourself

Your Canvas profile is where you can add a profile photo, contact details and a short bio.

If you’d like your classmates to be able to contact you by email or phone, or connect with you on LinkedIn, you can add those details to the Biography section of your profile.

2. Set up your notifications

Turn on notifications to make sure you don’t miss important updates from your course director.

3. Find your way around Canvas

Once you’ve accepted your course invitation and set up your notifications, it’s time to explore your course.

Open your course from the Dashboard. Most courses will take you to a home page with an overview of the course and information about your teacher. Any new updates from your course director will appear as Announcements near the top of the page.

Finding your course materials

To access your course content, select Modules.

Think of a module as a chapter or folder. This is where your course director will share documents, videos, links and other course materials.

Assignments and feedback

Some courses include assignments that you’ll need to submit through Canvas. You’ll find these under Modules, where you can read the instructions and upload your work for feedback.

At Berghs, we believe in learning through open feedback and exchange. Depending on the course and assignment, some submissions may therefore be visible to other course participants, giving you the opportunity to see each other’s work and provide peer feedback.
