Inclusion - from insight to action!

Over the past couple of weeks, the Black Lives Matter movement gained global momentum as a response to the death of George Floyd. Around the world people are protesting and the issue of systemic racism and exclusion is top of mind for everyone. As a leading school of communication, we want to contribute to the conversation by continuing to spread knowledge on how we can move from insights gained to action. This week, Berghs will host two webinars on inclusion in the creative industries.

At Berghs we strongly believe that diversity and inclusion are essential components in all creative and innovative environments. Those of us in the communication industry, and those who are studying to be part of the future of the industry, must continue to educate ourselves and do more.

Since starting our Advisory Board on Inclusion a few years ago, we’ve done many things involving both young people and professionals, both through education but also through outreach projects and we’re already seeing the positive effects. But we also need to do more. We are hosting two webinars to share more knowledge to inspire change.

“In the past week, many have been moved. Issues such as inclusion, racism and value have started a conversation in both the media and in our own personal and professional lives. We want to use our platform to share different perspectives and enable an important conversation,” says Camilla Wallander, CEO of Berghs.

“An incredible energy has been unleashed in the past week through the Black Lives Matter protests. We can see both companies and individuals taking a stand against racism and a willingness to better understand these issues. However, it’s important that this energy doesn’t simply end with posting a blacked out picture on social media, but that real change happens. Having an open and humble conversation is a good start,” says Marie Alani, Head of Program Directors at Berghs.
