Berghs Bachelor

Berghs Bachelor is an international study program designed for young students who want to pursue an international career in communication. You kick-start your undergraduate studies at Berghs School of Communication in Stockholm with a full­-time foundation semester in English. Then you move abroad and complete your Bachelor's Degree in Europe or Australia. You can choose the program that suits you best at one of our partner schools in London, Milan, Paris, Edinburgh, or Perth.

Berghs also offers exchange opportunities. Students studying a related subject at a university or higher education institution outside Sweden are welcome to apply for an exchange semester in the Berghs Bachelor program in Stockholm, subject to approval by their home institution and Berghs.

This program runs twice per year. Once in the Spring (Feb - May) and once in the Fall (Sep - Dec). The first round of applications closed on April 15th. June 4th is an extended deadline.

The semester at Berghs gives you a foundation for your future international studies, practical professional tools, and a broad view of both the strategic and creative process. The semester consists of five courses, all delivered in English with Berghs’ unique action­-based pedagogy.

Core Courses

The following 5 courses are the foundation modules of the Berghs Bachelor curriculum:

• Pitch & Presentation Techniques is a course designed to develop strong foundations and confidence in professional communication. You will learn the skills to present knowledge and pitch ideas in a clear and compelling way, through improved narrative structure, voice, and body language.

• Marketing Communication teaches the fundamentals of the full marketing life cycle, from crafting strategies to executing and presenting creative campaigns. We work with an external client to create a real-world brief, where you will apply your learning through the process of creating a communication solution to a client challenge.

• Thinking Media gives you key perspectives and important tools to help you understand and analyze the intensive media-driven society we live in today. The course is designed to foster critical thinking, in order to become more conscious consumers of media as well as more insightful communicators.

• Visual Communication takes you on a creative journey from observing the world around you to finding your own visual voice, through hands-on exploration and personal storytelling. You will discover how visual communication shapes our culture, and learn how to express your unique perspectives through photography, video editing, and sound design.

• Personal & Professional Development helps you to prepare for your future in the communications industry, combining professional mentorship, inspirational guest speakers, and creative workshops. Topics include practical skills such as preparation for the job market, the international experience of studying and working abroad, and more. This is a non-graded course and provides a more informal space for sharing experiences, ideas, and learnings. 

Elective Courses

In addition to the aforementioned Core Courses, you also get the opportunity to customize your learning experience by choosing one of the following Elective Courses.

• Strategic Communication dives deep into the art and science of brand thinking, where strategy, creativity and execution intersect. You’ll gain a holistic understanding of how to build brands that resonate, and how ideas transform into powerful narratives. Learn how to turn insights into action, create cohesive communication plans, and develop strategic presentations that inspire and persuade.

• Graphic Design introduces you to the fundamentals of design thinking and craft. Through hands-on exercises, you’ll practice working with color, typography, imagery, graphics and motion – and understand how these elements work together holistically to create long-term value, from a brand-building perspective.

Industry Week

This week is a highlight of each term, where you’ll have the opportunity to get a peek behind the scenes at some of Stockholm’s top creative agencies in areas such as advertising, design, fashion, film, media production, and AI – to learn about their various projects, creative processes, and insights. During these visits, you’ll meet professionals in a variety of roles, hear about their career journeys, and even begin making connections for the future. Recent visits have included: Åkestam Holst, BBDO Nordics, Forsman & Bodenfors, Uncut, The Studio, BVD, B-Reel Films, H&M Studios.

Upon successful completion of the foundation semester at Berghs in Stockholm, you can then study abroad by transferring to one of our partner schools in Europe or Australia to complete your Bachelor’s degree. The number of credits that you are awarded, and the duration of study-time waived vary by partner school and chosen degree.

When you apply to Berghs Bachelor, you are not committing to studying abroad or choosing a specific school. You can simply indicate what interests you. A few weeks into the programme, we'll provide a clearer picture of each partner school, what they offer, and what might suit you. You’ll have time to ask questions and make your decision later on — with our guidance every step of the way.

Do I need any prior knowledge?

Swedish Applicants

You should have a high school (gymnasium) diploma with a Swedish grade point average of at least 14.0, or the international equivalent thereof. You should be fluent in English and need to have achieved Grade C or higher in English 6. International experience is a plus! Your application should include 4 files (all in English): your application task, your CV, your personal letter, and your high school diploma. Applicants who meet the requirements may be called to an interview in English.

International Applicants

The Berghs Bachelor program is open to international applicants with full English proficiency. International students can join the semester at Berghs in Stockholm and continue their studies to any of the destinations above. Your application should include 4 files (all in English): your application task, your CV, your personal letter, and your high school diploma. Applicants who meet the requirements may be called to an interview in English.

Exchange Students

International students can join the semester at Berghs in Stockholm and then return to your university of origin. If you are considering an exchange semester with us, we would like to receive your application as soon as possible to determine whether the semester at Berghs can be accredited at your university. Your application should include 4 files (all in English): your application task, your CV, your personal letter, and your high school diploma. Applicants who meet the requirements may be called to an interview in English.

Visa Requirements

For Swedish and EU applicants, the Foundation Term at Berghs in Stockholm (15 weeks) does not require a student visa. However, a visa application will be necessary when relocating to your chosen partner school overseas. Berghs will provide guidance on this visa application process.

For non-EU applicants, you will likely need to apply for a Residence Permit for Higher Education to attend the Foundation Term of Berghs Bachelor. Kindly note different visa conditions may apply depending on your citizenship.
