Welcome
Born during the golden age of mass media; the art of graphic designer Erik Friberg tend to find inspiration in old commercials and packagings. Nothing beats looking into old video game manuals(and smelling them). As his personal style further develops it's becoming more and more clear where the inspiration came from, which adds another dimension to his work.
An excerpt of my CV:
2007-2008: Illustrator for the newspaper Nerikes Allehanda (NA)
2007-2010: Worked for the art/design shop unik
2008-2010: Webdesigner for the band Mohlavyr, the shop unik and the game producers brainfairies.
2009, 2010: Photoshop/Webdesign teacher in Örebro konstskola (art school)
2010-2012: Full time Graphic Design studies at Berghs, School of communication.
Stuff I do:
Webdesign (design, html, css, php, javascript (jquery), flash, mysql)

Portfolio:
Dcnstr. Magazine
Under supervision of teacher Pompe Hedengren I got assigned to create my own magazine solution. The subject was entirely free to choose. The 'magazine of our dreams' so to speak.
I created the magazine Dcnstr. which discussed something I love the most; the making of.
I can spend hours looking at videos where you can see the process behind a complicated project and I wanted to catch that essence in this magazine. Dcnstr. was created with very strict grids so that the magazine itself could be deconstructed and bloat it's underlying structure to the reader. Since it wasn't a sharp case, and since I didn't want the magazine to feel static, I decided to challenge myself by creating entirely illustrated backgrounds for every new spread, this was after all the magazine of my dreams, and such a magazine fully devotes itself to the subject.
The magazine was also an experiment in rotating the standard viewing angle of a magazine by 90 degrees.
The real Kirby
As I was so greatly influenced by video games, I had longed to be able to create my own 3d stuff. During a way too hot summer in 2010, I decided to finally put an end to my longing and started my first larger scale 3d project.
The project was all based on a silly joke involving the attorney who helped Nintendo win a case way back in 1984. The lawyer was named Kirby and, according to some, his name was later used for a very famous, pink, video game character as to honor the lawyer. So, my question is, did the video game character inherit more than just the name?
This was my first big 3d project summing up years of experimentation. Since this project, 3d is now a tool used often in my pipeline.
Brandning Mohlavyr
During the period 2008-2011 I worked closely with Swedish artist/music artist Mohlavyr, together, we created various art projects revolving around her band.
When Mohlavyr started to work on her single, the collaboration expanded. She needed a band logotype that mirrored her quirky and different sound as well as the actual cover art for the single.
The single cover was both photographed and edited by me.
The work with Mohlavyr has involved everything from band posters, photographs, videos to webdesign.
Illustrative posters
During spring 2010 I applied various graphic design schools for the autumn term. Since the competition was rough, I wasn't really expecting to get in on any school that year. But apparently I did, because that autumn I started my studies at Berghs School of Communication. I kinda exceeded my own expectations by getting in on the school I was least expecting to have a chance on.
These posters were carefully made for one of the application assignments. The assignment was to illustrate several typical Swedish design 'buzzwords'. I still like these a lot and they also represents my love for bold style choices.
Move
A lot of stuff going on right now, several stressful assignments to finish for next week and in the middle of it all; I'm moving! So I haven't updated my blog as much as I would have liked.
new book
I dunno why but recently I felt like I really needed to try the moleskine notebook for sketching (previously I had the simple plain white pages). I wanted to test whatever it bled through with the new pens I had. Happy about the new investment I couldn't wait to try it, so I was actually looking forward to ride the commuter train :-p. It did bleed through thought but the quality of the lines it produced was amazing compared to the old book. I'm really in love with it! And one from the old sketchbook, but with the new pen. (dosen't look as good at all!)
Commuter
Trying to keep up my drawing skills. So I've begun to do quick portraits of people at the commuter train. Really fun actually :-) (and a bit embarrassing when people notice you!) And some other sketches...
kirby
Some say the video game character Kirby got his name from Nintendo's legal counsel; John Kirby. So if he got his name, are they resembling each other in any other way too? Above is my attempt to visualize him, and it's also the first bigger 3d project I've ever worked on, took me a month and I learned a lot! Further reading regarding the idea!
3rd
Not so long ago I joined a cozy group of people at school to work for Swedish mail company Posten's competition "Guldlådan". Our submission was nominated and was invited to attend the finale. Which was yesterday. As you might have guessed (based on the title), we ended up 3rd place all in all! Yay! You can see/read about our submission here: http://guldladan.posten.se/bidrag/en-gava-fylld-med-omtanke/
Geek

Design for a t-shirt contest (wrote about it before!), I didn't really focus on the theme (which was infographics) but rather did something in between work for fun :-p If u don't get it, well, it's because you haven't played video games enough.
Locomotive

Illustration made for the short novel "locomotive" by Tove Jansson. "I eat out but cook my own tea in the mornings and in the evenings. It's awfully quiet in my flat. Sometimes, during my evening tea, I get the strangest feeling of not existing, almost as if I never existed. These are some of the things I might get an answer to by writing this." (freely translated, don't blame Tove for bad language anyway)

Brand reworking. Initial trails of cell id originalpink(magenta) seem to originate from galaxy NGC 4321 also known as Messier 100. Acquiring permission to begin studies under code name messier100.
Welcome

The blog has gone through a phase of redesign recently (a quite massive one, followed by a name change) and have therefore not been updated for quite a while now (and I used to be so happy for how often I managed to update my blog, pffft). Anyway, I recently bought myself a new sketchbook (a limited edition pacman moleskine that makes my nerdy side pleased) so I thought this book marked a good start for more sketch dumps in my blog! More to come!
