UX Writing
This intensive online course offers a deep-dive into the craft UX writing, including the processes behind it, research, collaboration and iteration. Over 8 weeks, online, you’ll learn how UX writing fits into the content design process and how to work with other stakeholders in product and design teams. This is a hands-on course with lots of practical tasks to apply these new skills
Week 1: Introduction to UX Writing
Overview of the role: what a UX writer does and does not do. Principles of UX content and their connection to voice, tone, and style, followed by a content critique.
Week 2: Discovery and User Needs
Writing for the user and learning from your users. Understanding user needs versus business needs and how to balance them.
Week 3: Interfaces and Microcopy
Exploring Figma and best practices for writing microcopy, including error messages, buttons, forms, and more.
Week 4: Inclusion and Accessibility
Designing content that works for everyone.
Week 5: Usability Testing
Methods for testing and researching to find out if your content works — and how to improve it when it doesn’t.
Week 6: AI and Content
How AI can support the creation of user-focused content.
Week 7: Final Projects
Presentation of portfolio projects, group discussion, and feedback.
Week 8: Collaboration and Career Development
How to demonstrate the value of UX writing and work effectively with Product Designers, Product Managers, developers, engineers, stakeholders, and Brand & Marketing teams. Guidance on finding a job as a UX writer.
You have 3+ years of professional experience in copywriting, journalism, social media, or a combination of these. Also product designers, product managers or anyone on the product team that works with words and wants to get better at writing UX copy and understanding content design principles.
You’re either the person responsible for the words in your products and you want to formalize your skills, you’d like to expand your range as a writer for digital, or you’d like to transition into the growing field of content design and UX writing. The course and assignments will be in English, but you’ll get a set of in-demand content design skills that enable you to work in languages across a range of markets.
